Address by Dr Norman Abjorensen, President, Canberra region branch of the Australian Society for the Study of Labour History and response from DAMTP
‘Gai Brodtmann, Kim Sattler, Ged Kearney, distinguished guests, comrades.
Thank you for the invitation, and it is most gratifying to see this project, long in the planning, at last coming to realisation.
Some 30 ago I took a stand, of sorts, for the miners.
More specifically, it was about who was and who was not a miner.
I was at the time a senior journalist with the ABC in Sydney, and my bone of contention was the increasing use then by finance reporters of the term ‘miner’ to refer to mining companies.
My argument was that these corporate entities, and the people who sat in the boardrooms, were not miners at all; miners were people who dug things out of the ground. It was, to my ear, demeaning to the real miners, the workers.

CALL FOR INTERNATIONAL PROLETARIAN ACTION – CYBER SAMHEIN SJAMMING
Written by AMANDLA!
Labour union activist Sipho Jele was murdered by the Swaziland Police after being arrested on Mayday 2010. His so-called crime was to be wearing a Peoples United DEMOcratic movement T-shirt. Under the orders of the King Mswati, a state of emergency lasting over 32 years so far - has branded all workers who organise against capitalism – including those within the Police - as terrorists. The Swazi monarchy survives by supporting vicious multi-nationals such as Coca Cola who exploit the countries resources as well as foreign ex-colonial imperialists such as the UK and US.
The monarchy in England has also only survived by collaborating with bourgeois democracy and we therefore know that a democratic government cannot deliver power to the people as long as capitalist corporations governments as well as the monarchies that spawned them continue. Thobile Gwebu a pro-democracy activist who was claiming asylum in UK was recently deported to Swaziland and so we wish to continue the weekly vigil she made outside the Swaziland High Commission in London in cyber as well as physical form against all monarchies as well as corporations.
GAP IN A TRASHY CORPSE OF BIENNIALIZATION: WHEN BAD FAITH MOVES MOUNTAINS
Written by M9 coordination
The mediatisation of an event always removes some of its visibility, just as they say that the mode of production of a commodity always disappears.
Similarly, Manifesta, the quintessential European biennial, is preparing to embark upon its eighth and latest exhibition effort in Murcia, in the south of Spain, in October. But it is common knowledge that Manifesta is a sort of phoenix that comes to an end in one place only to come back to life again in another.
After working on the frontiers between Spain and North Africa, Manifesta is already prepared for its return to the heart of Europe, to investigate the notion of “Europeanism” in the Limburg region: in the very Euroregion it has always favoured. Holland, Luxembourg, and Germany have all been venues for the event, and now it is the turn of Belgium, in a geopolitical hub that recalls the ECSC more than the new EU.
COMMENTS ON GEOPRAXIS [PARTIALLY INCLUDED INTO THE LAST VERSION BY HOWARD MCCALEBB]
Written by DAMTP
0. The development of ‘art’ from painting into other dimensions of sensation, space, time and meaning, is a result of the development of the means of production distribution and consumption – since ‘art’ now refers to such a great range of practices it only makes sense to consider ‘art’ as a unified practice in terms of being a cultural practice that serves particular interests – psychically – that of the ruling class. Any new reality must therefore define new relationships with regards to class – which is human relations to ourselves and the world.
GEOPRAXIS: SEEKING/REJECTING THE EMBLEMATIC IN GLOBAL CULTURE
Written by Howard McCalebb
Sponsored by Dada Post, Berlin Germany
Dada Post presents Geopraxis: a program of inquiry on the state of art practice of our current era of global society.
Geopraxis is a program initiated to examine the condition and problematic of the phenomenon of globalization, and its impact on art practice. The inquiry seeks to question the efficacy of a new International Style: one which will codify coherent global art practice, as artists attempt to meet new challenges, while seeking ways to further connect their practices in a new strategic infrastructure.
Over the millennia, evolving cultural developments have continuously intervened on the conditions from which artists conceive and manifest their art. The tradition of mimesis, for example, which had been a predominant aspiration in Western art since the ambitions of Greek Naturalism, prevailed until the Industrial Revolution brought forth the camera. The camera's ability to create exact duplications of the representational image was a cataclysmic intervention in the ways that artists would conceive and make art - forever. The creation, transfer and use of knowledge are ongoing and steadily evolving, as history moves on for better and for worse.
Today, we face a similar challenge under the new conditions that have evolved to shape our current era. We have entered a fundamentally new reality. Regarding the development of a global means of production, distribution, and consumption, as ‘art’ continues to refer to such a greater range of practices, it makes sense to consider ‘art’ as a unified practice in terms of being a cultural practice that serves particular interests. How this new global reality defines the new conditions with regards to human relations in terms of Nationalism, Ethnicity, Gender, and Class, is all part of a new mix of circumstances that remains as contentious as the old.
October 5th, 2010 is the day we invert our logo triangle because of direct aspirations from the prospective of the working class consciousness. We’ll invert all top pointing triangles on our way and so until the final collapse of capitalism – then we’ll see.
Thank you for your recent proposals - I am very interested in leaving my role as a reactionary leader and joining the DAMTP time traveling strike organizing team. In fact I have already suggested some temporal vertices in my grimoire The End Of The Age Of Divinity (On The Death Of Isidore Isou).
Since Art as a category begins around the time of the Industrial Revolution we could mark the first Art Strike as occurring at this time (the autumn equinox - chiseling phase - of the age of divinity). However Comrade Karen Karnak has informed me that in the 12th century B.C., on the 21st day of the second month in the 29th year of the reign of the pharaoh Ramses III, workmen in the town of Deir el-Medina conducted a wildcat strike -- the first recorded labor action in history. These were no ordinary men; they were hereditary craftsmen who worked on the tombs of the pharaohs, the vast complexes that to this day draw visitors from all over the world to the Valley of the Kings and this is probably a better vertex for the first Art Strike.
Nical models of real locomotives; or, to be more correct, they enjoy the make-believe with quite as great a zest. Hence, perhaps, in praising conscious art for children's literature, one is unwittingly pleasing older tastes; indeed, it is not inconceivable that the "prig" which lurks in most of us may be nurtured by too refined diet. Whether a child brought up wholly on the aesthetic toy-book would realise the greatness of Rembrandt's etchings or other masterpieces of realistic art more easily than one who had only
known the current pictures of cheap magazines, is not a question to be decided off-hand. To foster an artificial taste is not wholly unattended with danger; but if humour be present, as it is in the works of the best artists for the nursery, then all fear vanishes; good wholesome laughter is the deadliest bane to the prig-microbe, and will leave no infant lisping of the preciousness of Cimabue, or the wonder of Sandro Botticelli, as certain children were reported to
do in the brief days when the aesthete walked his faded way among us. That modern children's books will--some of them at least--take an honourable place in an iconogr
ON TRADING OF TECHNICAL TERMINOLOGY AS A COMODITY
Written by Ford S. Ford
...Also I started pondering about various possibilities to extend the art strike to the past. To achieve this, I would like to propose that we make a scientific project, which determines a point in the past which we find adequate when the art strike should begin. I think we should use a number of different disciplines, from art history, sociology, statistics and climate and migration studies, including comparative literature, oceanographical and meteorological analysis of the ozone layer and the world's oceans to determine the crucial point in time in the past, when we declare the strike started. We could publish on this occasion a newsletter located in the past, which discusses various art related events as well as socio-political developments. A corresponding newsletter could be then located in the future where we evaluate the effects of the strike on international production and presentation of art. A central focus will be to analyze use and dissemination of words such as "culture" and "creativity", as well as reassessing concept such as "critical" and "political" in the respective contexts of their appearance and usages - thus identifying tendencies and currents by means of flow-charts and diagrams as they are used by economists, stock trade strategists and in statistic surveys - disclosing derivation of these notions, their first-time usage, when and where they emerge and where they massively appear.
to expand in the left hemisphere of the cerebrum. We see the quadrigemina on the back of the ascending fibres and their connection by fibres with the cerebellum behind, as they connect with the thalami in front.
This is as complete a statement of the structure of the brain as is necessary, and further anatomical details would only embarrass the memory. [Illustration] The engraving above represents not an actual dissection, but the plan of the fibres as understood by the anatomist. The intricacy of the cerebral structure is so great that it would require a vast number of skilful dissections and engravings to make a correct portrait.
Fortunately, this is not necessary for the general reader, who requires only to understand the position of the organs in the head, and the direction of their growth, which is in all cases directly outward from the central region or ventricles, so as to cause a prominence of the cranium--not a "bump," but a general fulness of contour.

TOWARDS DAMTP WORLD CONGRESS: CQC/ IDEAL/ COSATU /PWA
Written by DAMTP
The Congress of South African Trade Unions have been in touch :
What I would suggest dear comrade is that you issue a global call for organizations to take up the Swazi struggle and support it. We would also be happy to hear what activities you think you can carry out in the name of the Swazi people, including assisting with media work (main area of interest), resources for mass mobilization and capacity building.
Sipho Jele who was killed in police custody after Mayday 2010 has therefore joined the DAMTP (the international workers union of Tangoma/Tinyanga) Dead Workers Union (Emalodti) and begun a working group to negotiate the terms of surrender of the King Mswati of Swaziland.
BURN SAYS HAPPY MOTHERFUKKER'S DAY WITH BEN MOREA!
Here is an interview of 2 hours long with our friend Ben Morea arranged by B.U.R.N. on 2010-05-10.
Up Against The Wall, MotherFukker! is an instrumental part of the living history of resistance and anarchy amerikkka. Ben Morea was a part of that movement, coming from the artist group Black Mask, they took to the streets in direct action campaigns that were spontaneous, immoral, toxic and all around good fun type of shenanigans. Ben joins B.U.R.N. to reinvigorate that lost spirit of the trickster in a time that is ripe for insurrection.

0th world? – Advanced Communism
The IWW classify workers industrially from 100-600, under three main categories of industry of a modern, capitalist economy: extraction of materials, production of goods, and provision of services. This very roughly corresponds with the use of Land in the 3rd World (100 Agriculture, 200 Mining), Labour in the 2nd World (300 Construction, 400 Manufacture) and Capital in the 1st World (500 Transportation 600 Services). Since this system is from the early 1900s when the international Communist movement was in its first amplic phase, capital production has further developed. 2004’s IWW Commitee on industrial classification recommended that the classification be altered in order to account for this development. However this would have expanded the representation of workers in the First World (in Capital intensive production) , effectively mirroring the amplification of bourgeois control in the form of Enterprise as the 4th factor of production and Entrepeneurship as an industrial locus of workers.
Taking a worker centred approach, we can also classify production in these 3 dimensions of class as related to the senses of taste and smell (100-200), sight and touch (300-400) and hearing and thought (500-600). Psychic and data mining work therefore sits between 400 and 500 – ie the 1st and 2nd worlds – the ages of divinity and saints. This is a further reason why the current imperial world war manifests as a religious one between innovators and traditionalists. More importantly it means that since as data miners and psychic workers we have a direct access to the means of organisation, we must support and seek to be controlled and lead by those workers unions who do not – ie those in land and labour intensive modes of production in the 3rd and 2nd worlds (ages of prophets and sainthood). In this way we pass organisation power to those workers who need it more thatn us. On the other hand, we must seek to control and take power away from those in the more capital dominated areas of production (the 1st world/ age of divinity). It should be noted that these categories are not strictly geographical/ temporal or classical but situgraphically (topologically) interwoven.
DEAD WORKERS ALIVE COMMUNICATION: C-63, 46, 2, 1, 2, 18 CALLE DE LA INDUSTRIA
Written by Karen Karnak
At 21:16 pm Spanish Time 20th July 2010 - I began my connection with the deadworkers of the furniture factories in "Angles" town in Cataluña. Karen Karnak assisted me in my work, as alone I would not be able to contain the psychic channel, such is and has always been the way. The factory lies abandoned and at the edge of the miserable town.
The veneer of the town is thin, woodworkers making not decorative or functional objects but a system of power transfer which uses psychic channels to convert a long hot day wasted within the dusty enclosure of the building, chained like a dog to a loud machine, into a relaxed teatime glance at the varnished finished of the ´quality´object. In the old town a tavern displays a complex door to the toilet. It is made from a series of small framed indents. Staring at the door during my stay in the toilet I noticed the amount of time and concentration which had gone into the work.
This same energy goes into the computer, into data mining, and all forms of skilled time exhaustive work. It can be said that assembly line work does not contain this psychic energy but it is true, when one has experienced the deep shamanic trance of the conveyor belt, the slippage of time, and the psychic jolt when the machine comes to rest for the regular three hour tea break.
Art Strike Information Maintenance and Dissemination Brigade (ASIMDB) ceases its transitional activities and dissolves into the current of DAta Miners & Travailleurs Psychique as a result of common positions and aims. The last day of ASIMDB activism is the 28th July, 2010 – The Death Strike.
The DAMTP constitution is to be announced soon afterwards.
ON THE PRODUCTION OF DEATH [DECLARATION OF A DEATH STRIKE ON 28TH JULY 2010]
Written by DAMTP
We join the actions today, in support of the lecturer worker of Chosun University Dr. Seo Jeongmin, who comitted suicide. However rather than pray to Jesus, Isou or any other dead worker we hereby announce the formation of a Dead Workers Union with whom we join forces to target the bosses.
This is an extension of the working class cultural practice of celebrating life and death, something targeted by right wingers as 'qabar puja'. This is because they have contempt for working class culture. Communists in the Sindh, whatever religion they are from and in rejecting religion, organized at shrines against imperial rule.
Since the death of Mohammed marks the end of the Age of Prophets it also opened the Age of Saints. It was the Lettrist Fazlallah who opened the Age of Divinity which was closed by the death of Isidore Isou in 2007.
